Research Analyst (SelectUSA)

Ascendant is currently recruiting qualified candidates for a Research Analyst position linked to a contract we hold with SelectUSA, a program housed within the International Trade Administration at the U.S. Department of Commerce. Ascendant supports SelectUSA’s mission to facilitate job-creating business investment into the United States and raise awareness of the critical role that foreign direct investment (FDI) plays in the U.S. economy.

 

As part of Ascendant’s Research Team, the Analyst will perform substantive research and analysis and develop tailored research reports for U.S. companies, potential foreign investors, and U.S. economic development organizations. The Analyst will also perform due diligence research and provide support for the annual SelectUSA Investment Summit.  This position is based in Washington, DC and is metro accessible.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of professional experience in a similar capacity

  • A Master's degree is a required

  • Ideal candidates will have education backgrounds in Economics, Business Administration, International Relations, Public Policy, International Trade, Finance, and other related fields of study

  • Coursework in economics and statistics and demonstrated academic or professional experience in quantitative and statistical analysis are required

  • Experience and/or interests in U.S. economic development and/or investment attraction is desired

  • Knowledge or experience in economic development, international trade, and/or foreign direct investment is a plus

  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Ability to conduct sophisticated research using numerous resources, compile and analyze data, and provide recommendations based upon statistical analysis

  • Ability to operate independently to complete tasks and succeed in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office Tools including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel

  • Proficiency in conducting internet research, as well as utilizing databases; prior experience with LexisNexis, Hoovers, Salesforce and/or FDI Markets is a plus 

  • Must have a strong attention to detail and have the ability to produce professional-grade documents for public dissemination

  • Must have strong writing skills to draft and edit reports, briefing materials, and slide decks

  • High degree of organization and time-management skills

  • Applicants should demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative, flexibility and the ability to multitask

  • A public trust background check with U.S. Government must be completed prior to starting work..

LAC Research Analyst (USTDA)

Ascendant is currently recruiting qualified candidates for a full-time Research Analyst position linked to a contract that we hold with the U.S. Trade & Development Agency. The Research Analyst will perform substantive research, analytical, evaluation, and administrative support functions for the U.S. Trade and Development Agency’s programmatic work in the Latin America and Caribbean region. This position is based in Arlington, VA and is metro accessible (Rosslyn). 

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years professional experience in a similar capacity

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is a plus

  • Working proficiency in Portuguese is required; Spanish foreign language skills also desired

  • Ideal candidates will have education backgrounds and interests in International Relations, International Development, Public Policy, International Trade, Economics, Technology, and other related fields of study

  • Regional knowledge and experience is desired

  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Ability to conduct sophisticated research using numerous resources

  • Ability to compile and analyze data and provide recommendations based upon statistical analysis

  • Ability to analyze programs and processes to determine effectiveness

  • Ability to operate independently to complete tasks and succeed in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office Tools including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel

  • Proficiency in conducting internet research, as well as utilizing databases

  • Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to format professional-grade documents for public dissemination

  • Must have strong writing skills to draft and edit reports, briefing books, letters and other forms of correspondence

  • High degree of organization and time-management skills

  • Applicants should demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative, flexibility and the ability to multitask

  • Candidates must be able to obtain a Secret level security clearance with the U.S. Government. A public trust background check with U.S. Government must be completed prior to starting work.
