Investment Consultant (SelectUSA)

Ascendant is recruiting qualified candidates for full-time Consultant positions linked to a contract that we hold with the International Trade Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The Consultants will support SelectUSA’s programmatic work in attracting and retaining foreign direct investment (FDI) in the United States with an emphasis on the health, ICT, and energy sectors.

 

Consultants will provide support to the SelectUSA Investment Services team on investment pipeline work conducting activities that enhance progress of existing and new quality investment pipeline projects. Duties and responsibilities will include: 

  • Mining networks, SelectUSA resources, and other assets for new FDI leads;

  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies to proactively curate and foster deal development aimed at facilitating investment into the U.S.;

  • Conduct research to identify company targets for proactive outreach;

  • Vetting and qualifying investment deals;

  • Project managing selected deal engagement;

  • Running reports and building dashboards;

  • Drafting briefing materials; 

  • Coordinating investment promotion activities with international and domestic staff; and

  • Providing regular updates on pipeline progress.

This position is based in Washington, D.C. and is metro accessible (Federal Triangle).  Remote telework flexibility is offered in the current environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required

  • Six (6) or more years of relevant professional experience in economic development, site selection, international trade, and/or foreign direct investment is desired

  • Experience in business development is desired

  • Experience attracting, supporting, or implementing investments in the health, ICT, or energy sector is desired

  • Proficiency with Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

LAC Research Analyst (USTDA)

Ascendant is currently recruiting qualified candidates for a full-time Research Analyst position linked to a five-year contract that we hold with the U.S. Trade & Development Agency. The Research Analyst will perform substantive research, analytical, evaluation, and administrative support functions for the U.S. Trade and Development Agency’ work in the Latin America and Caribbean region.

This position is based in Arlington, VA and is metro accessible (Rosslyn). Remote telework flexibility is offered in the current environment.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years professional experience in a similar capacity

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred

  • Ideal candidates will have education backgrounds and interests in International Relations, International Development, Public Policy, International Trade, Economics, Technology, and other related fields of study

  • Working proficiency in Portuguese is required; Spanish is also desired

Senior Due Diligence Analyst (USTDA)

Ascendant Program Services, LLC is recruiting qualified candidates for a full-time Senior Due Diligence (DD) Analyst position in support of a 5-year contract that we hold with the U.S. Trade & Development Agency (USTDA).  This position is based in Arlington, VA and is metro accessible (Rosslyn). Remote telework flexibility is offered in the current environment.

Responsibilities

  • Independently lead and manage research / due diligence projects using open source and subscription-based research tools

  • Prepare/review due diligence reports and provide quality assurance/guidance to regional research analysts and a junior due diligence analyst

  • Investigate and review adverse media pertaining to financial crimes, AML, bribery/corruption, FCPA violations, OFAC sanctions issues, etc.

  • Assess materiality of findings based on strong understanding of U.S. regulatory framework and potential reputational risk

  • Perform in-depth analysis of foreign entities and U.S. companies and their beneficial owners, draft clear and concise written summaries and analysis of investigative findings, and prepare reports for USTDA decision makers

  • Present investigative findings to client   

  • Coordinate and oversee large-scale due diligence projects involving multiple team members

  • Lead research and knowledge management efforts for the team  

  • Assist in identifying new information resources

  • Provide training on due diligence processes and best practices

Qualifications

  • Master’s or J.D. degree required. Education background in library and information science, pre-law and legal studies, international relations, and other related fields of study is desired.

  • 5+ years of work experience in a similar capacity involving due diligence research or risk assessment

  • 2+ years of prior experience providing training and quality control reviews

  • Specific experience managing complex investigations or reviews within a financial institution, law firm, insurance company, or governmental entity

  • Familiarity with legal research platforms such as LexisNexis

  • Candidates must be able to obtain a Secret level security clearance with the U.S. Government. A public trust background check with U.S. Government must be completed prior to starting work.

Construction Carpenter 

Ascendant is recruiting experienced carpenters to support Federal construction programs in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Our carpenters are involved in every aspect of our construction projects. Their understanding of how it all comes together, focus on customer mission, and quality workmanship ensures that our projects achieve objectives and are completed safely, on schedule, and on budget.

These positions are based in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area including the Baltimore-Washington corridor and Northern Virginia.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in rough and finish carpentry; commercial office and Government facility renovation experience preferred

  • Ability to review project plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required

  • General knowledge of all trades and their interaction to efficiently work on the project

  • Ability to diagnose and creatively solve problems and challenges inherent in multiple trade construction projects

Construction Electrician (US)

Ascendant is recruiting experienced electricians to support Federal construction programs in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Our electricians play a critical role on our teams; their focus on customer mission and quality workmanship ensures that our projects achieve objectives and are completed safely, on schedule, and on budget. Positions are subject to Davis-Bacon Act with hourly compensation dependent on project site location.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience installing electrical systems (conduit & wire, lighting, panels, fire alarm, etc.)

  • Journeyman’s License or equivalent; Master’s preferred

  • General knowledge of major distribution system components such as switchgear, transformers, panels, UPS, and related systems
